Because of these activities, the wastewater has high amounts of organic matter like sugar, oil, grease, protein, and solid waste. Sometimes it also carries strong smells and colours.

Treating this kind of effluent is not simple. It changes every day depending on the product, and normal treatment systems need a lot of space and chemicals.
