Distillation Column
SEDL distillation columns are engineered to maintain minimal pressure drop (low ∆P) across trays or packing. This design ensures smoother vapor flow, avoids flooding and weeping, and enhances energy efficiency. Suitable for both tray (plate) and packed internals, these columns are ideal for vacuum or mild-pressure operations where pressure-sensitive feeds are processed
A distillation column, also known as a fractionating column, is a vertical vessel designed to separate components of a liquid mixture through selective boiling and condensation. It consists of several key components:
- Column Shell: The main body housing internal components
- Trays or Packing: Structures that facilitate contact between rising vapors and descending liquids.
- Reboiler: Heats the liquid mixture to generate vapors.
- Condenser: Cools and condenses vapors at the top of the column.
- Reflux Drum: Collects condensed liquid, part of which is returned to the column as reflux.

These components work together to achieve efficient separation of mixture components based on their volatilities.
The Distillation Scheme with MVR Based system and easy plant operation is a great option for manufacturing processes that will revolutionise the future of chemical process industry.
We design, fabricate and install variety of distillation columns according to requirements of clients. We provide different configuration of distillation system such as Continuous Distillation Column, Single and Multi-Stage Distillation Column, Azeotropic Distillation Column and Vacuum Distillation Column.

How It Works
The operation of a distillation column is based on the principle of vapor-liquid equilibrium
Feed Introduction
The liquid feed enters mid-column.
Vapor–Liquid Contact
Vapor–Liquid Contact
- Tray Columns: Vapor rises through perforated trays; liquid flows down via downcomers.
- Packed Columns: Vapor and liquid flow counter-currently through packing surfaces.
Low ΔP Design
Internals are optimized (e.g., structured packing, openarea trays) to minimize resistance to vapor flow, reducing column pressure drop across stages.
Condensation & Reflux
Vapor is condensed at the top; part returns as reflux to enhance separation.
Product Withdrawal
Distillate is collected at the top and bottoms at the reboiler.
Why IsIt Needed?
Distillation columns are essential for
Purification
Removing impurities to obtain pure substances.
Fractionation
