Leachate Treatment
Leachate is a highly polluted liquid that is formed when rainwater filters through waste in a landfill. This liquid collects various dissolved and suspended pollutants from the decomposing waste. As a result, leachate contains high concentrations of organic and inorganic substances, heavy metals, ammonia, and other toxic compounds. Treating this kind of wastewater is a big challenge for any industry or municipal body.
At SEDL, we have successfully set up a 2 MLD leachate treatment plant that is currently running at full capacity. Our system uses MVR-based Low-Temperature Evaporation (LTE), which is designed to treat leachate directly without the need for pre-treatment, chemicals, or biological processes. The treated water is clean, clear, and has low TDS, which makes it reusable for industrial purposes.

Challenges in Leachate Treatment
Leachate is considered one of the most difficult types of wastewater to treat due to its high pollution load and complex composition. Some of the main challenges include:
High COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand)
Indicates a large amount of organic pollutants present, making it tough to treat.
High TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
Shows the presence of heavy inorganic pollutants that cannot be removed easily through conventional methods.
High BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand)
Represents strong organic pollution, though it reduces in older landfill leachate.
Ammonia Nitrogen
Present in high levels, harmful to aquatic life and resistant to removal by regular biological treatment.
Heavy Metals
Even in small quantities, metals like iron, zinc, copper, and lead pose a serious environmental threat and must be handled carefully.
Our MVR-Based Solution for Leachate
SEDL provides a proven, efficient solution to handle leachate through our MVR-based LTE system:
